Back Together with Heidi Happy!
When I first heard the music of Heidi Happy it was very soothing to my ears. Heidi Happy is an acoustic folk pop artist from Switzerland. Priska Zemp was born a musical talent. Her mother is a classically trained soprano, her father sings in several choirs. In April 2005 Priska Zemp decided to pursue her solo career as Heidi Happy. Her enchanting pop music and smooth vocals reminds me of a cross between Corinne Bailey Rae and Leigh Nash. Check out Heidi Happyâs release, Back Together, put out by Little Jig records. It features songs like âBack Togetherâ, and âJust Let It Beâ which are honest, straight forward, testaments to the events in Priskaâs life. Heidi Happy will be on tour in Switzerland from October 12 until the end of the year! Can’t You DecideBack TogetherCheck Out the music video for Back Together here.

When you’re as big as the Beastie Boys, you have so many releases, and then releases in other countries, formats for which those releases are released on, and limited this and thats. Then finally (but not the end?) you get the Best Of’s. In May, Grand Royal/ Capital released the Best Of Grand Royal 12″ Double Vinyl album which you guys probably by now have all heard in some dope club but I wanted to quickly highlight the CD version. It includes 6 additional tracks including “Rootdown” and “Groove Holmes.” It’s got old stuff and newer stuff. It’s basically grabbing some of my favs from different years and albums then remixing them and then releasing them with even more awesome stuff.

Hailing from Halifax, Jon McKiel and his band have just signed to Wednesday Records! They’ll be rollin’ out a new record on February 12th, 2008 which yes I know is a while from now but who cares. ”The Nature Of Things” and McKiel’s sound reminds me of the seeming subtleties of the Silent Years and The Slip with al the right amounts of pop in it to make for great sing-a-long music. There’s also some good acoustic on the album where I really appreciate McKiel’s vocals. McKiel’s album is mastered by Noah Mitz (Stars, Broken Social Scene, The Dears). The Canadians are taking over the indie music scene with all these great bands. It’s all about that free medical care! Anyways to get you anticipating the album, check out some of these rad tracks!

I heard about the
Hidden Detour Party about two days before the event and I had absolutely no idea what to expect except that there would be lots of dancing. And I guess that’s all we really needed to know! Boost Mobile & Fader put on 2 parties at these hidden locations in LA and the only way to go was to rsvp/text to get a text back of the address on the days of, raver status true. We went Friday night for the Ed Banger crew.

Big Scary Monsters Records are bringing us a split album from the two awesome up and coming indie bands, Cats And Cats And Cats and This Town Needs Guns who are both from the U.K. I really like both of the bands’ names. CCC has some sweet girl/boy vocal harmonies mixed with their indie pop, heavy instrumental intros while This Town Needs Guns has similarities of another favorite, Minus the Bear. Each band has 4 tracks on the split and it’s overall an enegery filled, instrument driven sound. While listening to the album, I often times can’t always differentiate between the bands until I hear the vocals. It is pretty rare to find a split where both bands have a good thing going. We got a track from each of the bands. Be sure to pick up the new album here.

We’ve been diggin’ releases from Berlin’s Morr Music for quite a while with releases from artists like Electric President, The Go Find, Lali Puna, Ms. John Soda and Seabear to name a few. This past summer they released an awesome various artist compilation called “Music For Hairy Scary Monsters” which consists of previously unreleased and rare electro-pop tracks from Benni Hemm Hemm, The Go Find, Tarwater, ISAN, Múm and Seabear. Overall a lot of good electric stuff. We got some mp3s for you and when you’re done listening go pick it up!

The sophomore effort of the GO! Team is even better than the first album. It’s just powerpacked with a crazy array of samples, tambourines and that super catchy playground rock. We would say it perfectly compliments the GO! Team’s sound progressively moving to a massive party with the kind of album that you could pop into any CD player for a guaranteed good time. Proof Of Youth rocks a 36 minute loud soulful often times 70s era funk tv show theme song except in a much hipper extended form. Just lots of Kick. If you picked up the album, you know exactly what I mean. Check out these songs now!

What started as a duo to an awesome some odd number multimember group is now down to the solo works of Kevin Drew, Sort of. ”Spirit If…” came out on Sept. 18th from Arts&Crafts and is supposed to be just the first of many “Broken Social Scene Presents” albums. It was a lot less solo and more of the awesome BSS goodness from the past as Kevin invites former bandmates, contributors, and vocalists to the scene. You got your Leslie Feist, Emily Haines (Metric), Amy Millan (Stars) and a slew of instrumentalists from past projects and meets collaborating into tracks. The Harmonies, the slightly-er softer indie sound, and this overall sonic embeded album rich with lyrics, is an awesome leeway into future projects that keep me wondering who will be on the next album and what to expect as far as sound goes. Either way I just listened to the entire album and it definitely gets our recommendation to go pick it up. Please check out these songs to entice you a little and then go get the album.

It was a relaxing and sorry we left y’all hangin, I got a handful of emails asking for new posts! So here to start us off (if you start your weeks on Sundays) is a new album from Saturday Looks Good To Me. I’m actually a new fan, they’ve been around since 99 and I started diggin’ “Lift Me up” when it dropped a couple years ago. If you guys are unfamiliar, SLGTM definitely brings an indie-pop element with writer/producer Fred Thomas (who used to be in His Name is Alive!)arranging with a talented line-up. Saxophones, synths, handclaps with harmonies and harpischord, display a good span of sound ranging from acoustic to catchy melodies worthy of 60s, 70s 4/4 rock beat ballads.
“Fill Up The Room” is the 4th album out from K Records and will be available for your listening ears on Oct. 23! but you can pre-order now! SLGTM will be going around for an awesome tour so be sure to catch them and for the LA folks, The Echo, Nov. 10th/6pm/$10. By the way, these songs make way good for travelling road trip music. Just Imagine it.

I know everything we say on here is biased to what we like, but we try to be fair, I think, but today is even worse! Finest Dearest is a band hailing from the Bay Area and they bring us some melodic indie rock with the vocal harmonies reminiscent of my high school favs. I first caught attention to them cause they sing a song called IDAHO! Which is totally and completely awesome because that’s where I’m originally from. But luckily this band makes fun indie music so it’s not ONLY because they have a song called Idaho. We got two songs for you from their Pacemaker EP and you can hear more here.

I’d have to say the fact that she’s married to Darren Seltmann of the Avalanches is really cool and rather interesting. I’m not saying you gotta make the same style music but yea…I guess I’m kind of saying that. Sally Seltmann has been New Buffalo for actually quite a while but has been on and off and working with different artists like Jens Lekman. In late March, off the Arts&Crafts label, Sally kicked out her new album Somewhere, Anywhere. We love our synth-pop tunes and Sally does it well with her keyboards and vocal harmonies. Her catchy piano playing and those light vocals make for easy favorites. If you listen carefully, sometimes there are some really strange electronic sounds in her songs. Happy Happy Happy!

The Flying Club Cup
Beirut is the capital, largest city, and chief seaport of Lebanon; Beirut the place that is.
Beirut the band on the other hand, is fronted by 21-year old Zach Condon who’s music was heavily influenced by balkan gypsy music, eastern europe and other various folk-pop sounds. The eclectic collage of instruments give the music an old country feel, delivering songs that make you want to smile for no reason. Condon has been writing music for about 6 years and is about to release his second full length album, “The Flying Club Cup”, that hits shelves October 9th! You can pre-order it through newburycomics here.
Some tracks from the upcoming album:
Oldies but goodies:

And so it is.

Just yesterday in the car we were talking about my favorite bands from high school. One of the bands that really got me into music was Jimmy Eat World. They have been one of my favorites for a long time but not a hardcore fan with only seeing them perform live 6 times. Take it back: High school, Sophomore year, my first song I heard was Blister from Clarity album which was arguably their best. I would later receive that album as a gift from a good friend. I was hooked as I quickly discovered Static Prevails. These songs are backgrounds to a lot of memories and feelings, you all know what I mean! They would go on to make two more albums with a consistent sound balancing rock and a softer side which gained my attention early on.

Gregg Gillis is Girl Talk
Gregg Gillis does not consider himself a DJ. Gregg Gillis is an artist of sorts. He samples pop-music from any decade, any imaginable genre and throws it together. The end result is something truly amazing; an intricate collage of lyrics, beats, and hooks mashed together to make music. Sampling artists such as James Taylor, Trey Songz, Notorius B.I.G., Elton John, Kanye West, Phil Collins, Weezer, and Mike Jones; for Gillis there are no rules. Anything with a beat, anything with words, anything goes.

Robo, Robo, I Know.
How I Became The Bomb is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Their name isn’t a declaration of ones social status, but rather, a last minute decision made by a close friend due to lack of a band name. The band met in Murfreesboro at Middle Tennessee State University. The guys came together and started making music simply for the abundance of joy it brings. Their sound is a collection of sci-fi-esque synthesizers, subtle shards of guitar, dance pop influenced drumming, and vocals that sound somewhere in between the likes of Ben Gibbard and Steve Bays. Here are some tracks from their EP “Let’s Go!”, give them a listen and tell us what you think!
Secret Identity
Killing Machine
Robo
Myspace
How I Became The Bomb is playing tonight JJ’s Bohemia in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Catch them if you can, they have an awesome live show.
Happy Friday!

It’s about time the Moving Units get their sophomore out. Their heavy bassline driven indie dance tracks from 2004′s Dangerous Dreams really hit it big with the post-punk dance that everyone is lovin’ on these days. I remember that album on vinyl rotation at a friend’s house after a fun night, a mini dance party, they’re the best. Hexes For Exes has just a tad less catchy dance grooves and a little bit more of that good indie sound (I said tad). I previously loved that bit of funk they brought early on but this album’s still got more than enough upbeat catchy indie rock to get you movin’!

I haven’t been to the fair this year. I like the fair. It’s not super special, but I like it. Carnival games that encourage you to try your luck (as long as your wallet allows), rides and attractions that raise questions of personal safety, and just about deep fried anything. If you go with the right people you can have a grand time! The L.A. County Fair is in Pomona until September 30th! So, if you are considering a trip to the fair anytime soon maybe Mates of State will tickle your fancy! They have a strong indie-pop sound with amazing vocal harmonies; a similar style to Matt and Kim with the drum and synth driven tunes. Mates of State is the perfect companion for your trip to the fair!
See them live.
Mmm. mmm. good.

We actually wrote about these guys in the past, they’ve got nothing new out, and they are not really on tour. I decided to post them up because simply I love their music. I really hope they are working on a full length, which would only make sense at this point. The Harlem Shakes released their “Burning Birthdays EP” earlier this year and it’s definitely worth a good listen. Just plain good indieness with some swankin’ vocals, stuff I wish I coulda listened to in high school. Alright Enough said check’em out!

Of all the productive things that made today great, these guys topped it for me. Probably one of the best composition of sounds I have heard in a long time, and if you don’t know by now, I love bands that can pull off cross over clashing combinations of genres from song to song. Mr. Hudson & The Library have quickly become one of my favorites.
